Every human being sleeps at night with the hope of waking up physically and mentally strong. But for some, the same nights become a nightmare owing to health complications or sleep disorders.
This story is of a middle-aged man, who on one odd nightslept after spending some quality time with his family members. He woke up around 2 a.m. complaining of chest pain. By the time his family could bring him to CIPACA, he suffered a massive cardiac arrest and his heartbeat stopped, leaving the family members in shock. As soon as he arrived, the doctors at CIPACA got into the action by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and within a few hours the patient was resuscitated. The family members were relieved upon knowing the patient’s condition.
After two days, he again had a massive heart attack and the doctors decided to move him into the incubator. They started briefing the family about the treatments required for the patient. However, the family members were not confident about the treatment and the team and insisted that the patient be shifted to a prominent hospital in Puducherry. But, on team’s explanation about the complications involved in transporting the patient at such a critical stage, the family agreed to continue his treatment at CIPACA.
After a thorough examination, they found that the patient had a severe lung infection whichresulted in the fluid formation. This had been the reason for his illness too.
The patient was given the utmost care for a month and though, he could not enjoy the Pongal festival at home, he walked back to his home with a sense of relief considering the day of discharge as the most important festival of his life.
CIPACA is not only known for their care within their premises, but they also extend their care after the patient’s discharge. The team started educating the patient and his family about post-hospitalization measures that needed to be taken. They also started speaking to the family members at regular intervals to ensure that the patient follows the prescription given by the doctor. Such interactions develop a better relationship and also ensure that the patient remains healthy.
After two years, the patient came back to CIPACA complaining of difficulty in breathing. He got the right treatment and within two days was discharged. He expressed his happiness to go back home to celebrate Pongal.
The patient told us that the reason he came back to CIPACA was the treatment that was given to him during his hospitalization and also the post-hospitalization care, the education that was given to him to pay attention to his health. He learnt to quickly respond to the early signs and symptoms of health deterioration rather than take health for granted.
Real care is lifetime care. CIPACA believes in ensuring that the patient leaves the hospital early and lives a long and healthy life.
